Churchill's A2 Media
Evaluation Question 3
Development
Before the implementation of our project, we started by presenting a pitch to our peers and teacher in order to present our ideas and plans for the movie trailer. After presenting our first pitch to our teacher and peers, we discovered that there were many aspects which had to be altered in our storyline in order to make the storyline of our movie trailer better. Here were some of the feedback which we received from both our peers and our teacher.
· “You have to use adults for the government agents or else it wouldn't look professional”
· “The lab scene which is going to be filmed in school will look too unrealistic and it would also take a lot of effort to make a school lab look like a professional lab”
· “Perhaps consider making a horror movie or thriller movie because Sci-fi movies require some professional equipment which you do not have”
· “Try to make a new plot which isn't based around using special effects”
Action plan
After carefully listening to the feedback which we had received from our peers and our teacher, we decided to make some changes to our movie trailer. Here are some of changes we made:
· We scrapped the lab scene and changed the idea that people would fall unconscious in London. Instead we replaced this with the idea that a bright white light would cause people to have supernatural abilities.
· We also decided to narrate the storyline of the movie trailer through the use of a news report scene.
· We also changed the plot to fit a thriller genre but we still had some special effects in the movie trailer therefore the genre of the movie trailer would be sci-fi thriller.
First rough cut
After creating our rough cut, we asked a few students from our class to watch our trailer but unfortunately everyone was too busy to watch our movie trailer therefore we couldn’t get many feedback. We asked some of our close friends to watch our movie trailer and give us some feedback beneath the comments box. Here was some of the feedback we found in our feedback comment area:

Although, we didn't receive a lot of feedback for our first rough cut, the feedback which we did recieve was very effective and detailed. This gave us many aspects to improve for our next rough cut.
Second rough cut
After reviewing our first rough cut, we made some changes to our movie trailer such as improving the news report scene. At this stage, one of the aspects which we learnt was that we had to get more feedback for our work because the more feedback we receive, the better we can improve our work. We politely asked every student in our class and the other media class to give us some feedback on our second rough cut. Furthermore, we thought that getting media students to review our work would be effective because they would know some of the conventions which would be expected in movie trailers as they are media students. Here is some of the feedback which we received from our peers.

Our feedback clearly showed us that our peers loved the effects which we had added in the movie trailer. Furthermore, we also learnt that the font style “You’re next” wasn’t suited to the genre of the movie trailer because it was too simplistic and not captivating therefore this was something which we intended to change in our final cut.
We were really stuck between changing the music which we had added to the end of the movie trailer. The music was “Run boy run” By Wood kid. From our feedback, a lot of people said they really liked the music however, a lot of people also said that they didn’t like the music therefore we asked our teacher who said that she didn’t like the music therefore we decided to change the music. Furthermore, we also learnt that people really liked the costume and mise en scene which we used in our movie trailer. Lastly, one of main criticism which we found in the feedback was that the Bailey’s voice in the news report scene was too long therefore we had to increase the volume to ensure that the target audience fully understood what he was saying.
Final cut
From the feedback which we received, we made some improvements in our final cut. Here are some of the improvements which we made for our final cut:
-
We previously had an American certification at the start of the movie trailer but we changed this to a British certification because our movie trailer was British.
-
We also increased the volume in the news report scene to ensure that the target audience could understand what was being said.
-
Furthermore, we also changed the music used from “Run boy run” to a faster pace sound called “Epic Immense Hybrid” which was orchestral.
-
Furthermore, we also changed some of the transitions used in movie trailer in order to make it flow better.
Furthermore, we also wanted to get some feedback on our final cut therefore we asked our peers again to write down some feedback on our final cut. Here is some of the feedback which we received from our peers.
As well as written feedback, we also wanted to ensure that we got some detailed analysis from our peers therefore we decided to do a live feedback session where our peers could analyse the movie trailer as they watched it.
Live feedback
Ancillary task
For the movie poster, I used social media such as Twitter and WhatsApp in order to collect some feedback from many different people for the movie poster. Using these social media applications were effective as they helped me to collect mass feedback which I could use to improve our product. Furthermore, I acquired permission from each person to leave their social media name on my feedback screenshot. This was simply because I wanted to show that the feedback received were from real people. Here is some of the feedback which we received.

After creating our website, we noticed that it would be difficult to get some feedback on our website because not everyone could access WIX from their computers, phones or tablets because it wasn’t compatible on some screen resolutions. However, for the people could access the website (which was only a few people) we simply asked them to comment on the website in the contact page. This contact page of the website had a comment section where the users could comment on the website. Here were some of the comments which we received.

Overall, I believe that receiving audience feedback was effective and also helpful because it helped me to improve my work which made the final cut in each product more successfully. Furthermore, from the audience feedback, I have also learnt it is very important to take the conventions of real media products into account because this would make the final cut of each product similar to real media products.
